Questions before you head out

RosettaMaps frequently asked questions

How does RosettaMaps keep spot information current?

RosettaMaps combines listings from the agencies that manage public land with updates from travelers who have recently visited. Each detail keeps its source and date so you can judge how current it is.

How many spots are in the database?

The map shows the current live total instead of a rounded marketing estimate. Coverage includes campgrounds, dispersed camping, water sources, showers, and useful stops across the United States.

Can I use RosettaMaps without cell service?

Yes. Pro members can download supported map and location data in the mobile app before leaving coverage.

What is included in Free versus Pro?

A registered Free account can explore the map, read spot details, and contribute updates. Pro adds offline downloads, premium layers, private locations, favorites, and GPX tools.

Which phones are supported?

RosettaMaps is available for iPhone and iPad through the Apple App Store and for supported Android phones and tablets through Google Play.

How do I contribute a spot?

Create a registered account, choose Add Location from the map, and provide accurate coordinates and useful context. Other travelers can add dated condition updates after visiting.

What data sources does RosettaMaps use?

Sources include Recreation.gov RIDB, U.S. Forest Service recreation data, Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service records, California State Parks, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and selected OpenStreetMap features.
